Monastiraki is one of the most picturesque areas of Athens. It is a historic neighborhood with narrow streets and small buildings dating back from the Ottoman Empire. The structure of the city in the particular area is not well defined.

The bazaar
Monastiraki has become synonym of the traditional bazaar, called also “Yousouroum” taking place for many many years, every Sunday, at Avisunia Square. Nowadays the visitor can stroll with pleasure in Monastiraki in order to discover old treasures.: old clothing, shoes, old furniture, books, traditional musical instruments, silver objects or made by bronze, antiques.Actually in Monastiraki are gathered numerous antique shops and small merchants sale their small or bigger goods.

The metro station
In Monastiraki is situated one of the most busy metro stations with the same name “Monastiraki”. This is a well connected station and from Monastiraki you can be by metro in a very easy and fast way to the main points of interest of Athens. The entrance to the station is located in the old square of Monastiraki. Around the visitor can walk some of the most commercial and characteristic streets of old Athens such as the streets of Andrianou, Pandrosou, Ifestou.
